As the National Grid electricity distributor for the Midlands, the South West and South Wales, Western Power Distribution (WPD) is committed to providing expertise and guidance to empower customers to embrace a low carbon future. We are working hard to make the transition to electric vehicles as easy as possible as well as ensuring that the network exists to enable drivers to charge their electric vehicles conveniently.
Our approach is to ensure that a suitable network exists for all charging requirements in all situations. We are determined and confident of creating a network capable of meeting the needs for the future allowing the anticipated influx of electric vehicle chargers. That’s why we’ve made a commitment to make it as easy as possible for customers to connect low carbon technologies ensuring WPD is able to connect up to 1.5 million electric vehicles by 2028.
We support of the Government’s Clean Growth Strategy and have bold and challenging ambitions to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2028 ahead of the UK Governments’ target of 2050 through the development of our own programme of low carbon emission vehicle adoption for our operational transport fleet, by adapting our company car scheme to remove combustion engine vehicles by 2025 and by continuing to encourage remote working.
